I'm always hungry for movement up, even walking down a narrow street toward some horizon line seems like climbing out of some lower place, and I like best my rooms up high--my favorite part of the city is above. I'm tired of the spaces close to the ground. Give me the 23rd floor, let me look into empty offices and watch a late night cleaner sweeping her rooms in her underwear, let me watch specks run down there for the bus creeping away. I'll clean the other forehead prints on the windows the maid forgot because that means I'm not the only one who has been here looking down. I'm not alone in this ecstasy of altitude wanting to run my fingers across the slender keys these buildings become as dusk rises to darkness from the ground below.
